Why GivBack Exists

Auckland is a world-class city.

But the places that bring us together – parks, playgrounds, reserves, sport fields, and community facilities – are under growing pressure.

Maintenance is not glamorous. It does not cut ribbons. Yet it is what keeps a city liveable, safe, and proud.

GivBack exists because caring for what we already have matters.

The GivBack Story

GivBack began with a simple conversation. Two people from different professional backgrounds – one from public infrastructure and partnerships, the other from finance and stewardship – had seen the same issue from opposite sides.

Essential community assets need sustained care. Yet public funding alone cannot keep pace.

We asked a straightforward question:

What if Auckland’s private sector could help care for the city it benefits from – transparently, visibly, and at scale?

The Challenge

Auckland Council currently spends approximately $600 million per year maintaining community assets.

Over the next 30 years, that figure is projected to rise to $1.5 billion.

Population growth, ageing infrastructure, climate impacts, and rising service expectations all contribute to this challenge.

This is not a failure of intent. It is a structural issue – and it requires a new response.

GivBack turns intention into impact.

The Insight

Businesses already invest in Corporate Social Responsibility.

What was missing was a trusted pathway – one that connects private goodwill directly to public places.

A structure that is credible, governed, and transparent.

A model that complements Council’s role rather than replaces it.

GivBack turns intention into impact.
